beyond that it was sunday in scandanavia, so absolutely nothing was open in the small town where y-twokicks and i decided to take a day trip from odense.

hoi an, vietnam

k-livealittle, l-orange and i were returning by boat from the my son ruins and came onto this construction site in hoi an. we later hung around the market, l-orange bought a dress, i hung around the fish market. then took scooters out the beach. oh and we had balut, unhatched duck eggs, after dinner.

after the trip, i had gotten a new flatbed scanner so the images are greyer than they should be. it took a coupl eof trips to calibrate it. recently i got a new ‘work’ laptop, now my highlights are going magenta, so i am still trying to reset it properly.

addis ababa, ethiopia.

68 years earlier, in 1941.  these men participated in in the second italo-abyssianian war.  haile selassie and his troops entered addis ababa.  yearly they meet an are celebrated.

i played photographer with a point and shoot camera. it was my last day in ethiopia and i was waiting for my red-eye flight home using the rest of my film.

easter sunday. perhaps the best lamb i will ever have in my entire life. i was adopted by a greek family if only for a day.

the evening before was a full night, empty stomach ordeal in the church until 3am. this evening would be set with a procession marking the beginning of another festival

in between semana santa that week. k-livealittle and i headed to lago attilan. and then back up to solola for their weekly market.

k-livealittle and i were guided across a very very rural village and then crashed a wedding.

at the end of holy week in sicily i thought i was tired, i’d been up 48 hours straight. then the processions finished i picked up my stuff and took a flight to rome. i managed to get about 5 hours of sleep before setting off.

it was easter morning and i was off to vatican city. the odd thing is i was without a ticket. the tickets were free, but i never went to pick them up. with some cunning i managed to make it into the good seats, still quite far away from the pope.

and then it rained, hard. my waterproof boots were no longer waterproof. i was stuck for the next three hours with camera gear idling under my jacket listening to the pope. he blessed everything.

over the course of the mass i managed to squeeze off the two pictures above.

of course after the mass was finished the rain rolled away and the sun came out, i walked my way back to the hostel. on monday night i would fly to israel for a wedding tuesday. i was exhausted. at the hostel bar, i met a massage therapist — that was exactly what i need. unfortunately, she doesn’t work while on holiday.

for the past four days i’ve been in colombia to prepare for yet another easter. it will be my eighth year. i’m surprised when people i know don’t know i’m working on this project. j-icpta just found out tonight. the project has consumed me.
